What is the legal definition of elder abuse?
For the purposes of getting an elder abuse protection order, “elder abuse” includes the following acts or intent to do the following acts:
- abuse;
- arson;
- assault;
- criminal coercion;
- criminal trespass;
- emotional abuse;
- financial exploitation as defined in 13A-6-191 and 8-6-171;
- harassment;
- kidnapping;
- menacing;
- reckless endangerment;
- rape/sodomy/sexual abuse - scroll to “Article 4. Sexual Offenses” to read all of the crimes included;
- stalking;
- theft; or
- unlawful imprisonment.1
