There is a housing law in Minnesota that allows you (the tenant) to end your lease if you are a victim of:
- domestic abuse;
- criminal sexual conduct; or
The law requires that you give your landlord notice before you end your lease. Your notice must be signed and in writing. If there are other people who are also on your lease, the lease ends for all of the tenants when you terminate your lease. Additionally, all of the tenants lose the security deposit when the lease ends.1 You can read more about this law on our Minnesota Selected State Statutes page. We will be adding more information about this law soon.
