Asian Family Support Services of Austin, or AFSSA (formerly SAHELI), provides assistance to Asian and other immigrant families dealing with domestic violence, sexual assault and trafficking. AFSSA’s specific programs include: The Survivor Assistance Program, which provides crisis intervention services, advocacy for legal and immigration matters, individual and group counseling and hotline services, hospital accompaniment, help applying for protective orders and making police reports, therapeutic counseling and basic needs such as safety planning, food and shelter. The Economic Empowerment Program, which helps survivors find employment and access education to gain independence and become self-sufficient. The Legal Services Program, which helps increase access to legal services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and trafficking and providing direct representation in civil courts and administrative tribunals. Catholic Charities of Central Texas: Immigration Legal Services (Austin Office)
Catholic Charities of Central Texas provides low-cost legal representation in immigration matters. Representation includes, but is not limited to family based immigration, permanent resident card replacement or renewal, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), visas for victims of crime and human trafficking, naturalization, and asylum. Family Violence Protection Team
The Family Violence Protection Team (FVPT) is a collaborative, community response to family violence that provides multiple services at one location. Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse
Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse (AVDA) provides services to victims of domestic and sexual abuse, regardless of income level. Services include legal representation for protective orders, divorce, child support, and child custody, crisis intervention, advocacy and support, financial assistance for emergency shelter, food, transportation and more, individual and group counseling for survivors and their children, as well as funds for education and training. Houston Bar Association LegalLine
The Houston Bar Association LegalLine is a free telephone hotline for residents of Harris County who have legal questions. LegalLine takes place on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of every month, between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Houston Refugee Pro Bono Project
Intakes are on Wednesdays between 9am and 12pm. No appointment is necessary. Consultations are $40 unless you are a victim of domestic violence or seeking asylum.
