Included in this list are organizations that provide free or low-cost legal services to victims and survivors of abuse, as well as to others who qualify. Even if the organization does not have a lawyer available to represent you in court, you may want to ask if there is a lawyer with whom you can consult to obtain advice. We list the organizations by the county where the office is located, but many offices serve multiple counties. We indicate the “counties served” whenever possible. You can click “View All” to look through the complete list of organizations.

Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas (LANWT) offers free civil legal assistance to low-income Texans. They serve 115 counties in Texas with 15 offices; the Fort Worth office serves Palo Pinto, Parker, Tarrant, Erath, Hoco and Johnson counties. They are able to represent clients in any type of civil matter. Their practice focuses on support for families, preserving the home, maintaining, economic stability, safety, stability, and health, individuals with special needs and problems affecting groups of individuals. Specifically they take cases with domestic violence such as, adoption, child abuse and neglect, child custody, divorces involving family violence, enforcement of access and visitation, modification of visitation/custody, parental rights termination, paternity, termination and adoption when abuse is alleged and visitation enforcement.

Supports all survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking, with a specialty in providing services to Asian communities. Services include: a 24-hour crisis hotline, safety planning, counseling, housing and employment resources, legal advocacy, court accompaniment, support for parents, and community education. All services can be provided in the language that you are most comfortable with.

Catholic Charities of Central Texas provides low-cost legal representation in immigration matters. Representation includes, but is not limited to family based immigration, permanent resident card replacement or renewal, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), visas for victims of crime and human trafficking, naturalization, and asylum. Clients must be at or below the 200% federal poverty guidelines to access services.

Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) provides free legal services to low-income residents in sixty-eight counties of Southwest Texas. The Austin office serves Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Hays, Llano, Mason, Travis and Williamson counties. The majority of TRLA clients are low-income women and children who are victims of domestic violence and who need assistance in escaping violence and remaining violence-free. To qualify for free legal services from TRLA, an applicant must meet the income, asset, and immigration requirements established by the United States Congress, the Texas Legislature, and other funding sources. TRLA will always attempt to find a funding source that will permit representation for persons who are unable to afford the services of a private attorney. They provide services in English and Spanish.

Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas (VLS) is an organization that provides civil legal services to low-income people through attorney volunteers in Travis County. Their attorneys help people with cases such as helping victims of abuse end violent relationships, connecting persons with disabilities with medical and financial benefits, and keeping people out of homelessness by defending against wrongful evictions and foreclosures.
