Included in this list are organizations that provide free or low-cost legal services to victims of abuse and others who qualify. Even if the organization does not have a lawyer available to represent you in court, you may want to ask if there is a lawyer who you can consult with to get advice. Please note that we list the organizations by the town/city or county where the office is located – however, many offices may likely serve multiple counties. Legal Services Alabama - Huntsville Office
Madison County Volunteer Lawyers Program
Provides free legal assistance to low-income residents of Madison County or people who have cases pending in Madison County court. No fee-generating, traffic court, or criminal cases are accepted. Help may be available for the following types of cases: Garnishments/Debt issues; Divorce and Protection from Abuse actions; Evictions; Foreclosures; Civil lawsuits; Food stamp denials; SSI Terminations; Unemployment Compensation denials; Wills and Estates.

Legal Services Alabama - Mobile Office

South Alabama Volunteer Lawyers Program ("SAVLP")
Serves low-income residents of Mobile, Baldwin, Clarke or Washington counties or residents of other counties with a legal matter in one of these counties. You must be 19 years of age or older. A parent or guardian can apply for services on behalf of a minor in some circumstances. If you think you might qualify, please call for a screening or apply clicking the link on our homepage that says “Apply Online” to find out if you meet all the requirements. The kinds of cases normally accepted are: Adoption (by agreement); Advice before lawsuit; Change of custody (by agreement); Child support modifications; Collection of judgments (under $3000); Contracts and warranties; Credit access and debt collection; Deeds and home ownership issues; Divorce (by agreement); Enforcement of court order from divorce involving children (excluding child support); Enforcement of worker’s compensation (under $1000 or for medical expenses); Estates (by agreement); Guardianship and conservatorship; Landlord-Tenant matters; Name changes (minor and adult); Paternity/legitimation (by agreement); Power of attorney; Visitation; Wage claims (under $2500); Wills and living wills. Montgomery
Alabama State Bar Volunteer Lawyers Program ("ASBVLP")
The Alabama State Bar Volunteer Lawyers Program primarily serves residents who reside/have court cases outside of the following counties: Jefferson, Madison, Montgomery, Mobile, Baldwin, Clarke or Washington. (There are separate Volunteer Lawyer Programs for those 7 counties, listed individually on WomensLaw.org.) The ASBVLP serves the remaining 60 counties in Alabama.

Montgomery Volunteer Lawyers Program
MVLP services are available to low-income residents of Montgomery County with civil legal issues or non-residents who have a court case in Montgomery County. You can apply for services by telephone (265-0222, ext. 2) to verify your eligibility for the program. You will not be meeting with an attorney in our offices; once qualified, you will be referred to a participating volunteer lawyer. If you are coming to the MVLP office to apply, please be certain to bring all documents relating to your case with you. You may also wish to speak to an attorney immediately by attending our MVLP Advice and Counsel Clinic.
