In our Iowa Restraining Orders page, we did the following:
- Added “intentionally pointing a laser showing a visible light beam at you with the intent to cause you pain or injury” as an additional definition of domestic abuse to What is the legal definition of domestic abuse in Iowa? (This change in the law became effective in 2021. We regret the delay in adding it.)
- Added the clarification based on 2022 amendments to the laws that a consent agreement in a restraining order case is made without admission of committing abuse to the following two questions:
- Step 5: What will I have to prove at the hearing? in our Protective Orders (for Domestic Abuse) section.
- What types of sexual abuse restraining orders are there? How long do they last? in our Sexual Abuse Protective Orders section.
We also added the newly-enacted crime of “older individual assault” to our Iowa Crimes page and Selected Iowa Statutes page.
