Based on 2022 amendments to Minnesota laws, we did the following:
- Updated How will a judge make a decision about custody? in our Minnesota Custody page to include a child’s developmental disability as a factor that judges will consider when evaluating the child’s best interests.
- Updated Can a minor get a harassment restraining order? in our Minnesota Harassment Restraining Orders page to explain how a minor can prove that s/he is emancipated for the purposes of filing a petition on his/her own, even without a legal order of emancipation.
- Updated two questions in our Minnesota Housing Laws section and one question in our Minnesota Orders for Protection section to add sexual extortion as a qualifying crime for protection under those laws. (These changes went into effect in September 2021; we regret the delay in adding them.)
We also added the crime of sexual extortion to our Minnesota Crimes page and Selected Minnesota Statutes page.
