CA housing edits

Based on new laws that took effect 1/1/25, we did the following:

1. In our California Custody section, we revised Am I eligible for an ex parte temporary custody order? to add that when evaluating if there is an immediate risk to the child, the judge:

• must consider whether a parent is prohibited from having firearms and ammunition and whether the parent has access to either; and
• can order limited visitation –either supervised or virtual– or can suspend or deny visitation to the parent who presents a risk.

2. In our California Restraining Orders section, we did the following:

• In our Domestic Violence section:
  
  • Created the new question In which county do I file?
  • Revised Step 1: Get the “Request for Domestic Violence Restraining Order.” to link to the new question and to add the specific name of the petition in the question title and answer.
• In our Gun Violence section:
  
  • Revised What is a gun violence restraining order? to explain that the judge can issue an order even if the respondent does not own firearms, ammunition, or other deadly weapons at the time that the judge is making his/her decision.
  • Revised How will the judge make a decision? to include multiple new factors a judge can consider, as well as minor changes in wording to other factors.

3. In our California Workplace Protections section, we:

• Revised seven questions based on changes to the law that protects an employee who is a victim or whose family member is a victim of “a qualifying act of violence.”
• Created the new question What additional protections are there if I work in a larger workplace?
