If the abuser's gun(s) is taken away, what will happen to it?
It depends. If the abuser’s gun is ordered to be taken away by your order of protection, the abuser may be told to have a friend or family member drop the gun off at the sheriff’s department. The sheriff may also come and get the gun him/herself. If you’re worried that the abuser might still have his/her guns, call the sheriff’s department to find out whether this has been done.
If the abuser’s gun is confiscated by the police because it was used while committing a crime, it may be sold or destroyed.
