Restraining Orders

There is no fee to file for, get, or serve a domestic abuse protective order.¹

You do not need a lawyer to file for a domestic abuse protective order. However, it can help to have one at your hearing to make sure that your rights are protected. This is especially true if the abuser has a lawyer. If you can’t afford a lawyer but you’d like one to help you with your case, you can find information on legal assistance on our Hawai‘i Finding a Lawyer page. In addition, the domestic violence organizations in your area may be able to answer some of your questions or help you fill out the necessary court forms.² The court staff might be able to help too.
