Places that Help: South Dakota
If you are a victim of abuse, you may want to ask the Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral Service whether or not they screen for lawyers who are experienced in handling domestic violence cases. For a suggested list of questions to ask regarding the lawyer’s fees and experience when interviewing an attorney, go to our Choosing and Working with a Lawyer page.
State Bar of South Dakota Lawyer Referral Service
The State Bar of South Dakota Lawyer Referral Service is a public service to help you find a qualified, local lawyer. Lawyers who participate in this program will give you a consultation, during which you will receive:
- Guidance on the nature of your legal issue from a trained, friendly attorney;
- Potential options available to you;
- A discussion on the costs associated with hiring an attorney.
Note from WomensLaw.org: It is not clear from the SD Bar Association website if the consultation is free or if there is a cost. Please be sure to clarify that with the lawyer before you go to the consultation.
WomensLaw serves and supports all survivors, no matter their sex or gender.
