Suing a company in another state (info on Better Business Bureau, attorney general, and lawsuit)

In general, if someone believes that a company has violated the terms of a contract or has acted in a deceptive manner, there may be a couple of ways to handle it.  One way could be to report them to the Better Business Bureau, which can help negotiate between a consumer and a business in some instances. Also, if someone thinks that a company is deceiving consumers, s/he may contact the state’s attorney general’s office to see if they would investigate.  I looked up that office for you in STATE in case you want that information. [LOOK UP ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE IN THE STATE WHERE THE BUSINESS IS, SPECIFICALLY THE CONSUMER PROTECTION DIVISION]  Also, a consumer may have legal grounds to sue the company in court.  When a business is in a different state than the consumer, the consumer may still be able to sue in his/her own state if certain conditions are met (which may have to do with how they advertise to other states, with the “terms and conditions” that the consumer agreed to when purchasing the product, etc.). You may want to speak to a lawyer in your state to figure out if: 1) you have legal grounds to sue and 2) if you can sue them in your state or if you have to sue them in their state.  Here are links to find lawyers in the CONSUMER’S STATE and also lawyers in the COMPANY’S STATE.
