Suing Abuser for Damages

V paid for lots of expenses with live-in A; asks how to get her money back

In many situations where couples are living together and sharing household expenses in some way (whether evenly or unevenly), a court will not go back through a relationship and figure out which person spent what money or get involved with figuring out if one person contributed more than the other. Courts often deal with breaches of contracts or failure to pay back a loan from one party to another. So, for example, if two people in a couple had a specific contract regarding money loaned to one person with specific amounts and dates of when the money would be paid back and this is violated, a judge may enforce that contract. In terms of your specific situation, I cannot evaluate what chances, if any, you may have in court to redeem some of the money that you gave to your ex because we cannot give out any sort of legal advice but here is a link for lawyers where hopefully you can get an assessment of your situation and advice:LINK
