Prosecutor

double jeopardy - brief explanation

Speaking with the assistant district attorney who handled the case may be helpful, to see if there are any additional charges that may be brought against the abuser. Generally, however, due to the Double Jeopardy Clause of the Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution, a person cannot be charged for the same crime twice. The Double Jeopardy Clause prohibits state and federal governments from prosecuting individuals for the same crime on more than one occasion, or imposing more than one punishment for a
single offense. Speaking with a lawyer in STATE about this may be helpful - please see our Finding a Lawyer page for legal referrals LINK
