Parents live in different states -who drives the child? (has custody order)
Often times, the custody/visitation order will specify where the visits are to take place - does your order say anything about the location for the visits? In general, when parents live in separate states, there is often some negotiating in court about which parent has to drive the child. Sometimes, the parents may alternate each week or one parent may drive for the drop-off and the other parent may drive to pick- up the child, etc. Sometimes if one parent is the one who moves away, the judge may order that parent to do the driving. Again, this is often negotiated in the order in court and is often specific to the circumstances of the individual case. If there is nothing in the order and the parents cannot agree, often one parent may try to go back to court to ask to modify the order to include terms of who has to do the driving, where the visits will take place, etc. If you want to get legal advice about this, or if you want to go to court to try to add the specifics about who should drive in your situation, here is a link for legal services in both states since I am not sure which state issued the order: in STATE :LINK and in STATE 2: LINK
Lastly, here is some general information about custody in each state in case that is useful: in STATE -LINK and in STATE 2 -
