.Are there supervised visitation guidelines?
In some states, when a supervisor is appointed for visitation, the judge may ask to meet with that person in order to explain the rules of the supervision. For example, the supervisor needs to know not s/he is just supposed to be in the home during the visit or whether s/he has to be present with the parent and children in the same room, whether or not s/he is supposed to intervene in the visit in any way if s/he seems inappropriate behavior, etc. If the judge on your case did not specifically outline the supervisor’s responsibilities, perhaps this may be something that can be asked about by one of the parties or by the supervisor at a future court date if there is one. Also perhaps, if you ask an attorney for advice, s/he may be able to tell you about another way to try to figure out a supervisor’s role. Here is a link for lawyers, free and paid:LINK
I tried to see if I could find any information for you by looking online, on the [STATE] Courts website, etc. but nothing came up. [DO THIS GOOGLE SEARCH FOR SUPERVISED VISITATION GUIDELINES IN HER STATE] However, perhaps if you call the court, perhaps the clerk can tell you if the court has a list of guidelines for supervisors. Also, if you have a court date coming up, perhaps this is something that you may decide to ask the judge to clarify.
I also found an organization (not in STATE) called the Supervised Visitation Network, which is made up of professionals in the field of supervised visitation - I do not know that organization and cannot vouch for them but perhaps they may know of a “model code” for supervised visitation. Here is their contact info in case you wish to call them: http://www.svnetwork.net/contact.asp
