.My mother cared for my kids (with no legal order) and she won't return them.

THIS INVOLVED A WOMAN WHOSE KIDS WERE WITH HER MOTHER IN ANOTHER STATE - IF THAT’S NOT THE CASE, ADJUST THE LANGUAGE TO MAKE IT ABOUT ONE STATE: You may want to talk to a lawyer in STATE and also in STATE to get advice on the best way to get her to return your children. If she does not have any type of legal court order to take care of your children, perhaps an attorney can tell you if the police may be willing to get involved to get them returned if she is keeping them from you. I am not sure if the police would charge her with any type of custodial interference charge or if they would tell you to handle it in civil court but again, a lawyer may be able to advise you on this.

If the police won’t get involved and you have to go to court, there may be some type of court papers that can be filed to demand that she produce your children/return them to you but I can’t tell you specifically what those forms may be in your state. Also, since this involvees 2 states, I don’t know if it would be filed in STATE or STATE.
