Custody & Kidnapping

.Is a custody order enforceable between states?

IN THIS CASE, BOTH PARENTS MOVED TO A DIFFERENT STATE – IF THAT IS NOT THE CASE, TAKE OUT IRRELEVANT LANGUAGE:
Generally, custody orders are valid and enforceable from state to state under a concept called “full faith and credit” where states honor the orders made by other states. Otherwise, every time someone moved, s/he would have to re-file and re-litigate court cases, which would be expensive for litigants and courts (due to the use of the court’s time). [TAKE OUT THIS SENTENCE IF IT DOESN’T APPLY: Since both parties are now living in a different state than where the order was issued, you may want to ask an attorney whether or not you may be able to file any amendments in the new state where the child is living. I can’t say whether or not you could since it depends on various factors.] Here is a link with information about trying to modify an order in another state in case this information may be useful at some point:http://www.womenslaw.org/laws_state_type.php?id=11149&state_code=GE&open… And here is a link for STATE lawyers in case he wants to confirm the information that I have explained above and make sure that it applies to your particular case:LINK
