Changing county where case is (within state)/change of venue

Generally, if a person wants to change the location of a court case, it is known as changing the venue. Although I cannot speak to STATE laws in particular, many states will change venue when neither party lives in the current county where the case is held. [CHECK IF WE HAVE A LAW ON THE STATUTES PAGE ABOUT CHANGING VENUE IN A CIVIL PROCEEDING - IF SO, SAY:Here is the STATE law from our website that speaks about changing venue in STATE although I cannot say for sure whether or not this is the specific law that would deal with changing venue in a custody case since I am not specifically knowledgeable about STATE laws: LINK]

In terms of the actual steps to try to accomplish moving a court case, usually, a person may be able to go to the court where the case is located to file a motion for a change of venue and request that it be transferred to a different county. I looked on the STATE Courts website to see if they had any forms online regarding change of venue but I did not see any (here is the website: STATE)[IF YOU FIND A FORM FOR A CIVIL CASE, CHANGE OF VENUE, ERASE LAST PART AND INCLUDE IT]. Again, I cannot say for sure whether or not this general information that I am providing will apply to your specific case. For specific advice, you may want to talk to a lawyer. We have a link for lawyers, some of which may be free of low-cost if you qualify, here:LINK You may also be able to find out what the proper forms to file are by calling the court clerk - here is a link with courthouse contact information in STATE:LINK

Lastly, in case it is useful, here is some general custody information for STATE: LINK
