Child Support

Child support general info *

Generally, the court will determine how much money the non-custodial parent will pay to support a child. The court usually uses set guidelines to determine how much support the custodial parent will receive and the amount is generally based on a percentage of the parent’s income, the custody arrangement, the number of children being supported and many other factors. I do not know the exact percentages in your state. To get a rough idea of how much support a custodial parent in your state may receive, you can visit your state’s child support calculator here: GOOGLE THE WRITER’S STATE AND CHILD SUPPORT CALCULATOR AND CHOOSE THE LINK TO A GOVERNMENT OR .ORG SITE However, this website only estimates the amount of support a custodial parent may get. The amount of support a custodial parent receives may depend on how much the judge actually decides to order based on the legal factors s/he must consider.

There are also likely different ways for a custodial parent to collect the support once s/he has a support order such as getting the money taken directly from the other parent’s paycheck and sent to him/her. This might be calling garnishing his wages, an income withholding order, an income execution order, or something similar. The judge or a lawyer may be able to advise you of all the possible ways to collect the money. Here is a link to lawyers in your state to find out more: [LINK]
