Here are a few tips:

Print the emails with the headers [which show where the email came from] as soon as possible to have them as evidence for the police. Our Safety Net team (another project within our organizations) did a little research on how to print out headers and here is what they came up with: This website that has tutorials on how to find the IP address in the headers of emails for Gmail- Yahoo mail – and Hotmail: https://aruljohn.com/info/howtofindipaddress/

Additional information from the above website:
• In an email the header is always found above the content of the email
• Things included in a header: TO, FROM, DATE, SUBJECT, sending time, receiving time

• Most of the aspects of the headers other than the TO FROM DATE and SUBJECT are hidden, so you have to know how to view the headers in the particular email that you have

It would be a good idea to print out their headers even if you can’t tell what the IP address is because you could take the information to law enforcement who will hopefully be able to interpret it.
