Sexual Assault

Rape by deception or rape by fraud

Only certain states have “rape by fraud” or “rape by deception” clearly written into their laws. (You can read more about this in a recent NY Times article I found on this topic.) GO TO OUR STATUTES PAGE TO READ THE SEXUAL ASSAULT LAWS IN V’S STATE AND THEN ADJUST THIS SENTENCE AS NEEDED TO SAY IT DOES APPEAR TO HAVE IT OR IT DOESN’T APPEAR TO HAVE IT: STATE law doesn’t appear to have either deception or fraud written into their laws, as you can see on our website where we have the definitions of the laws [HYPERLINK]. However, you may want to reach out to a lawyer [HYPERLINK] who is familiar with criminal laws in STATE related to sexual assault to get some advice as to whether there have ever been any successful cases in STATE based on deception or fraud, even though it’s not explicitly written into the law. You may also want to reach out for support to work through any trauma or other emotions that you are experiencing due to this situation. You can find online message groups and chats for anonymous online support as well as local domestic violence/sexual assault programs [HYPERLINK] for free counseling or support groups.
