Will an attorney take over my case? I can't afford my current attorney.
Thank you for reaching out to us. I am so sorry to hear about this difficult situation. It could be possible to get an attorney to take over your case however, it may help if you have copies of everything from your court file so that you can take it with you when meeting with the attorney. For an attorney to take over a case, s/he is going to want to know everything that has happened thus far - so if you can bring copies of all of the orders that were issues, any motions filed, and maybe a print out of all of the court dates and what happened on each one, that may help set a new attorney’s mind at ease. Your attorney who is stopping work on your case should make copies of the file for you - and you may also want to go to court to copy whatever else is in there that he doesn’t give you.
