Public benefits info for green card holder
Although we don’t have this information on our website, I did a bit of research and found some information that may be useful. This government website explains that green card holders must have their green card for 5 years before being eligible for SNAP (food stamps): http://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/mobile/eligibility/non-citizen-eligibility…. This organization’s website explains this a bit more and also talks about how the waiting period relates to other public assistance programs: http://www.pewtrusts.org/en/research-and-analysis/issue-briefs/2014/09/m…
This other government website shows what other programs are available in each state - however, it was written in 2012 and so I cannot say if the information is current or if anything has changed since then: https://aspe.hhs.gov/basic-report/overview-immigrants-eligibility-snap-t… It may be possible that states create a program that offers more benefits than the federally-funded program. I do not know what your state offers. You may be able to contact your local public assistance office to ask or perhaps an advocate at your local domestic violence organization will know. Here is a link to local domestic violence programs:LINK
Lastly, I found this website that talks about what programs an immigrant may be eligible for - however, this is not a government website nor is it related to a non-profit organization and so I cannot say whether or not the information is accurate: http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/what-public-benefits-can-green-ca…
