I want a U visa

You may want to get a legal opinion about your situation to see what options you may have. I strongly suggest that you talk to an attorney who specializes in U visas and can evaluate your situation. You can find free and paid lawyers in STATE on our website.

While I can’t speak to your specific situation or give legal advice, you can find information about applying for a U visa on our website. You can see information about the first step in applying for a U visa on our website as well.

As you may know, one of the key elements of a U visa is getting the U visa status certification from law enforcement. The certification is a form that states that the victim “has been helpful, is being helpful, or is likely to be helpful to the authorities investigating or prosecuting the criminal activity.” The law says that from the moment the victim starts to cooperate with the authorities, s/he will have to continue that cooperation without refusing or failing to provide information and assistance that has been requested in a reasonable way.

The other key element is that an applicant needs to be the victim of one of these specific crimes.

You can see all the requirements a person must meet to get a U visa on our website.

We also list national organizations that assist immigrants on our website. I can’t say which, if any, of these organizations may give direct legal help. You would have to contact an organization or see their website to find out their specific process.
