VAWA housing protections

The federal Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) prohibits discrimination in certain types of housing against domestic violence victims. Although I am not an expert in VAWA, I looked through the latest language of the law. I found information about the fact that a landlord in certain types of public housing cannot discriminate or terminate the tenancy of a victim of domestic violence. Since you said that you are in a Section 8 apartment, and Section 8 generally comes from federal money, this should be covered but you may want to check with a lawyer who specializes in domestic violence and housing to figure out for sure if this law applies to your landlord and your situation - here is a link to legal services organizations that may help in this area of law [INSERT LINK TO STATE LEGAL ASSISTANCE ORGS]. If so, the lawyer may be able to send the landlord a notice of the law to make him/her away and prevent any sort of eviction - or can use the law to fight against any eviction proceedings.
