Will guns be returned when a civil or criminal RO expires?
Generally, if firearms are removed due to an order of protection, they can be returned upon its expiration - however, in most states, if the firearm was used in a crime and then a criminal protective order was issued, then the weapon may not be returned since generally weapons confiscated due to criminal activity are not returned. I am speaking only generally, though, not about Iowa-specific laws. I do not know how Iowa would treat this topic or specifically what the laws would be in your particular situation. If you have a criminal court order of protection, you may want to ask the district attorney about this – if you have a civil court order, perhaps you can ask a civil attorney.
