Info on Independence Project, rebuild credit score
Our organization has a project called the Independence Project in which we give out a small loan of $100 to victims of abuse who need to rebuild their credit or establish credit in their own name. It is paid back in $10 payments each month. On-time payments can help rebuild or establish someone’s credit score. It is only open to applicants who have met with a domestic violence advocate at a local domestic violence program three or more times. Here is more information about the Independence Project in case you want to explore it as a possible way to begin rebuilding or building your credit. And here is a link to local domestic violence programs in your state if you want to reach out to one to get support: https://www.womenslaw.org/find-help/ca/advocates-and-shelters [CHANGE CA TO HER STATE IN THE PRIOR URL]. In addition, sometimes local programs will have an advocate who addresses financial abuse and who can do credit counseling as well.
