Can a divorce be re-opened? V asks about recovering money owed by spouse after a divorce (marital debt)

Generally, financial matters between spouses are handled as part of the divorce. In a divorce, the parties will need to list any and all marital debt and the parties or the judge will decide how to divide this debt as part of the divorce. Generally, if marital debt is not declared/dealt with in the divorce, both sides may be prohibited from later suing for that money (unless the divorce decree specifically allows for this to be done in a separate proceeding). In some rare circumstances, it may be possible to have a divorce judgment reopened based on fraud, mistake, or even newly discovered evidence. However, in some states, there may be a specific time-frame within which this must be done. I cannot speak to your specific situation or how STATE law deals with this so you would need to get legal advice from an attorney to figure out whether or not you have any options in this regard.
