V says she is being trafficked (trafficking)
First I wanted to let you know that there is a national trafficking hotline that someone can call for support and assistance. The number is 1-888-373-7888 and the website is National Human Trafficking Hotline. Here is information from their website: Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery. This crime occurs when a trafficker uses force, fraud or coercion to control another person for the purpose of engaging in commercial sex acts or soliciting labor or services against his/her will. Force, fraud, or coercion need not be present if the individual engaging in commercial sex is under 18 years of age. Please know that WomensLaw cannot vouch for the information on this outside website. We provide it for your information only – you may want to verify with a lawyer in your state.
There are also state specific trafficking programs that you can find on our National Programs page that may also be able to provide assistance. Local programs might also be able to help. An advocate there may be able to help you find temporary shelter or housing, provide counseling services, make legal referrals, and help with making a safety plan (thinking of ways to make yourself as safe as possible). You can find local organizations near you on our Advocates and Shelters page. And you can find additional information about safety planning on our website on the Safety Tips page.
