V filed false police report about abuse; wants to confess/ drop charges

Do you know whether or not the police are going to arrest him for the claim of abuse that you made. If the police tell you that there is not enough reason to arrest him, then you may want to ask an attorney whether or not it makes sense for you to tell the police that you falsely reported the abuse or whether the report may not have much of an effect on the abuser. Perhaps an attorney can help you consider how likely it may be that going back on your statement to the police may (or may not) open you up to criminal liability for falsifying information to the police or for some other criminal charge against you. Also, if after making the police report, if you signed that report under the penalty of perjury, you may want to ask an attorney if you may be opening yourself up to possible perjury charges or something similar.

If he is currently being prosecuted for the allegations that you now say are not true, perhaps you may want to ask an attorney whether or not s/he thinks it’s a good idea to tell the prosecutor that you don’t want to go forward with the case and you want to drop the charges without perhaps mentioning the false abuse – then it could be up to the prosecutor to decide what to do.
