A restraining order is a legal order issued by a state court, which requires one person to stop harming another. Domestic violence restraining orders and sexual assault restraining orders are explained in more detail below.
Some restraining orders are issued in criminal court and some are issued in civil court.
A civil order that provides protection from harm by a family or household member.
A civil order that provides protection to victims of sexual assault and other forms of non-consensual sexual contact who do not qualify for a domestic violence restraining order.
