A restraining order or protective order is a legal order issued by a state court which requires one person to stop harming another. In Iowa, there are protective orders based on domestic violence and protective orders based on elder abuse.
Some restraining orders are issued in criminal court and some are issued in civil court.
A civil order that provides protection for you or your family from domestic abuse.
A protective order for someone who is 60 years or older and being abused, neglected, or financially exploited by a family or household member or by a caretaker.
Your Iowa protective order can be enforceable in another state
If you are planning to move to Iowa or are going to be in Iowa for any reason, your protection or restraining order may be enforced.
