A restraining order or protective order is a legal order issued by a state court which requires one person to stop harming another. In Rhode Island, the different types of orders are explained below.
Some restraining orders are issued in criminal court and some are issued in civil court.
A civil order that provide protection from harm by someone who is or was a family member, cohabitant, or someone who you date or used to date.
An order that an employer files for based on violence, threats, or stalking to an employee by anyone.
Your RI restraining order can be enforceable wherever you move.
If you are planning to move to RI or are going to be in RI for any reason, your protection or restraining order can be enforced.
