A restraining order or protective order is a legal order issued by a state court which requires one person to stop harming another. In North Dakota, there are several types of orders explained below.
Some restraining orders are issued in criminal court and some are issued in civil court.
A civil order that provides protection from harm by a family or household member, including someone you are dating and people in same sex relationships.
A temporary order you can get in court without your abuser being present.
If you are not eligible for a Protection Order or an Ex Parte Order, you may be able to get a Disordly Conduct Order.
Your ND Protective Order may be enforceable in another state.
If you are planning to move to ND or are going to be in ND for any reason, your protection or restraining order may be enforced.
