A restraining order or protective order is a legal order issued by a state court which requires one person to stop harming another. In the District of Columbia, there are Civil Protection Orders.
Some restraining orders are issued in criminal court and some are issued in civil court.
A civil order that protects you from abuse by a family member, former or current dating partner or someone you share a child with.
Your restraining or protective order may be enforceable wherever you move.
If you are planning to move to DC or are going to be in DC for any reason, your protection or restraining order may be enforced.
