Where to Find Help
UPDATED March 31, 2009
To file for a restraining order in New Jersey, you will go the Family Division of the Superior Court, or to the Municipal Court in the area where you live. Find the civil court clerk and request a petition for a estraining order. If you need an emergency temporary restraining order after hours, go to the police station for help with this procedure.
At the courthouse, the clerk will provide you with the forms that you need to file. If you need assistance filling out the form, ask the clerk for help. You will also find links to online forms at our Download Court Forms page. You may also get help with the court system through one of the domestic violence organizations listed on our NJ State and Local Programs page.
