To file for an Order of Protection in South Carolina, go to the Family Court in the county where you live. Find the civil court clerk and request a petition for a restraining order.

At the courthouse, the clerk will provide you with the forms that you need to file. If you need assistance filling out the form, ask the clerk for help. You will also find links to online forms at our Download Court Forms page. You may also get help with the court system through one of the domestic violence agencies listed on our SC State and Local Programs page.

Listed below are telephone numbers and addresses for the Family Courts in South Carolina.  Again, Family Court is where you go to file for an Order of Protection.  If you need a restraining order against stalking or harassment, or if you need an Order of Protection immediately but Family Court is closed, you will need to go to Magistrate Court instead. Go here to find a Magistrate Court in your area: www.judicial.state.sc.us/magistrateCourt/magistrateMap.cfm
