Hawaii Disability Rights Center (HDRC) has authority to represent individuals in many types of cases, including abuse and neglect cases, when:

1. The individual has a disability, as defined in our CAP or P&A programs; and
2. The individual meets the eligibility criteria as defined in our CAP or P&A
3. The individual has a problem that has resulted from, or is related to the disability; and
4. The individual’s problem is within HDRC’s current Client Services priorities.

Legal Aid Society of Hawai’i (LASH) provides family law, housing, immigration, public benefits, and consumer law services. LASH has locations in Honolulu, Kaneohe, Waianae, Kailua-Kona, Hilo, Wailuku, Kaunakakai, Kauai, and Lanai City.

University of Hawaii Elder Law Program (UHELP) has an attorney/professor, a program administrator/legal assistant, and sometimes has a student law clerk. UHELP operates throughout the calendar year and provides basic legal assistance, advice, information and referral. UHELP is not permitted to assist with business or criminal law matters or with personal injury or other fee-generating cases. You may qualify for services if you are a resident of Oʻahu, you are 60 years or older, and are socially or economically needy, or if you are a caregiver of an older person on Oʻahu and need legal assistance on behalf of the older person. Each case is evaluated according to its own merits and in accordance with staff capabilities and limited resources.

Volunteer Legal Services of Hawai`i (VLSH) provides civil legal assistance to low to moderate income individuals in family law, simple estate planning, chapter 7 bankruptcy, private landlord-tenant, debt collections, and veterans’ assistance cases.
