In Virginia, you must go to the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court to file for a protective order. The Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court in Virginia handles matters involving the family such as custody, support and visitation. The court also hears family abuse cases, cases where adults have been accused of child abuse or neglect, and criminal cases where the defendant and alleged victim are family or household members. At the court, find the civil clerk and request a petition for a protective order.

At the courthouse, the clerk will provide you with the forms that you need to file. If you need assistance filling out the form, ask the clerk for help.
