Included in this list are organizations that provide free or low-cost legal services to victims of abuse and others who qualify.  Even if the organization does not have a lawyer available to represent you in court, you may want to ask if there is a lawyer who you can consult with to get advice.  Please note that we list the organizations by the town/city or county where the office is located – however, many offices may likely serve multiple counties.  We indicate the “counties served” whenever possible.  You can click the blue “View All” button to look through the complete list of organizations.

Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas (LANWT) offers free civil legal assistance to low-income Texans. They serve 115 counties in Texas with 15 offices; the San Angelo office serves Stering, Coke, Runnels, Irion, Tom Green, Schleicher, Menard and Concho counties. They are able to represent clients in any type of civil matter. Their practice focuses on support for families, preserving the home, maintaining, economic stability, safety, stability, and health, individuals with special needs and problems affecting groups of individuals. Specifically they take cases with domestic violence such as, adoption, child abuse and neglect, child custody, divorces involving family violence, enforcement of access and visitation, modification of visitation/custody, parental rights termination, paternity, termination and adoption when abuse is alleged and visitation enforcement.

RAICES provides free and low-cost legal services to underserved immigrant children, families, and refugees in Central and South Texas. Legal services include a residency and citizenship program, children's program, assistance to asylum and adult crime victims, and an emergency refugee shelter.

Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) provides free legal services to low-income residents in sixty-eight counties of Southwest Texas. The San Antonio office serves Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Crockett, Edwards, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Medina, Real, Sutton and Wilson counties. The majority of TRLA clients are low-income women and children who are victims of domestic violence and who need assistance in escaping violence and remaining violence-free. To qualify for free legal services from TRLA, an applicant must meet the income, asset, and immigration requirements established by the United States Congress, the Texas Legislature, and other funding sources. TRLA will always attempt to find a funding source that will permit representation for persons who are unable to afford the services of a private attorney. They provide services in English and Spanish.
