Included in this list are organizations that provide free or low-cost legal services to victims of abuse and others who qualify.  Even if the organization does not have a lawyer available to represent you in court, you may want to ask if there is a lawyer who you can consult with to get advice.  Please note that we list the organizations by the county where the office is located – however, many offices may likely serve multiple counties.  We indicate the “counties served” whenever possible.  You can click the blue “View All” button to look through the complete list of organizations.

Neighborhood Legal Services Association (NLSA) provides civil legal services to low-income individuals and families. NLSA’s services include representation to victims of domestic violence, custody issues, unemployment compensation, supplemental security income (SSI) cases, social security cases, cases where Department of Human Services (DHS) benefits are being terminated. Representation is also available to low-income tenants, income eligible consumers, and to the older adults, aged 60 and above. NLS’ Bridgewater location serves Beaver County.

Safe Berks provides services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Services include a 24-hour hotline, 30-day emergency safe house, medical advocacy, counseling, residential services, education and community outreach, systems advocacy, and legal services. Safe Berks can provide legal representation for Protection From Abuse (PFA) order, Sexual Violence Protection order, and Protection from Intimidation order hearings. Safe Berks serves Berks County.

North Penn Legal Services (NPLS) provides legal services to low-income families, individuals, and groups including victims of domestic violence, in need of legal assistance and representation. Services include individual representation (ranging from document preparation to litigation), information, referral, and advice through a telephone helpline, community legal education, and support to clients who will be taking responsibility for handling some or all aspects of their own issue. NPLS assists in noncriminal matters such as eviction from housing, discrimination, family law, and consumer protection issues. The NPLS Towanda Office serves Bradford and Susquehanna Counties.
