Included in this list are organizations that provide free or low-cost legal services to victims of abuse and others who qualify.  Even if the organization does not have a lawyer available to represent you in court, you may want to ask if there is a lawyer who you can consult with to get advice.  Please note that we list the organizations by the town/city or county where the office is located – however, many offices may likely serve multiple counties.  We indicate the “counties served” whenever possible.  You can click the blue “View All” button to look through the complete list of organizations.

The ACFJC Legal Advice Clinic is a partnership between the ACFJC and the Law Offices of Murphy, Vu, Thongsmouth and Chatterjee, LLP. Free civil legal advice will be provided by a licensed attorney on issues that include domestic violence, family law, guardianships, landlord/tenant and probate. Clinics are held every Tuesday from 9am to Noon. Please call the ACFJC at (510) 267-8800 to meet with a Client Navigator who will help you reserve an appointment. Onsite childcare and free parking are available.

Bay Area Legal Aid provides free legal help for low-income people. We can help with issues relating to housing, domestic violence, public benefits and health care access. Our legal assistance is available to low-income people who live in the Bay Area counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara.

At FVLC, we offer complete services to residents of Alameda County, California, who are experiencing domestic violence. We can support you through a crisis, help get you to safety, and place you in emergency shelter. We will help you talk to the police and support you through the criminal justice process. Our legal team can help you file a restraining order, a child custody/visitation order, and child support order. We provide free attorney representation for some cases. We offer counseling for your children, help you keep your future address confidential, and may be able to connect you to financial assistance to help you get back on your feet. All of our services are available free of charge.
