To obtain a restraining order in Mississippi, go to the justice court, circuit court or municipal court in your area. Find the civil court clerk and request a petition for a permanent restraining order, and also tell the clerk that you want a temporary order. Usually you apply for these at the same time.

At the courthouse, the clerk will provide you with the forms that you need to file. If you need assistance filling out the form, ask the clerk for help. You will also find links to online forms at our Download Court Forms page. You may also get help with the court system through one of the domestic violence agencies listed on our MS State and Local Programs page.

Listed below are telephone numbers and addresses for the justice courts, circuit courts and municipal courts in Mississippi. For information on the court system in Mississippi, go to www.findlaw.com/11stategov/ms/courts.html.
