In New York, two types of courts are available to provide protection to victims of domestic violence—Criminal and Civil.

For civil actions you can go to either the Family Court or the Supreme Court. Please read the information on our How to Get an Order of Protection page to determine which court to go to.

At the courthouse, the clerk will provide you with the forms that you need to file. If you need assistance filling out the form, ask the clerk for help. You will also find links to online forms at our Download Court Forms page. You may also get help with the court system through one of the domestic violence agencies listed on our NY State and Local Programs page.

Below are listed courthouses for New York State. You can read more about New York courts at: www.courts.state.ny.us. Current contact information for Family Courts can also be found at www.courts.state.ny.us/courthelp/FamProb.html.
