A restraining order or protective order is a legal order issued by a state court which requires one person to stop harming another.  In Nroth Dakota, there are several types of orders explained below.

  • Overview of Civil vs. Criminal Law

    Some restraining orders are issued in criminal court and some are issued in civil court.

  • Protection Orders

    Provides protection from harm by a family or household member, including someone you are dating and people in same sex relationships.

  • Ex Parte Orders

    A temporary order you can get in court without your abuser being present.

  • Other Orders

    If you are not eligible for a Protection Order or an Ex Parte Order, you may be able to get a Disordly Conduct Order.

  • Moving with a DV Protection Order

    Your ND Protective Order may be enforceable in another state.

  • Enforcing your Out-of-State Order in ND

    If you are planning to move to ND or are going to be in ND for any reason, your protection or restraining order may be enforced.
